Case Study:
USA Wine West
The Problem
Like so many other companies, USAWW faced significant disruptions to their supply chain in 2021 during the height of the COVID pandemic. One key challenge was when one of their largest distributors put a hold on receiving all direct-import containers from overseas. At that time, USAWW had about 90 containers already on the water. While direct-import containers weren’t usually handled by MGX, USAWW reached out to their Customer Success Manager at MGX to see if they could help.
The Solution
MGX immediately jumped into action and solution mode when they received USAWW’s container tracking report, prioritizing the containers needing attention:
Full Responsibility: MGX took over responsibility for all 90 containers on the water and helped USAWW circumvent the distributor’s hold on inbound containers:
- MGX coordinated truckers to pick up the containers from port, secured warehouse space, delivered the containers to warehouses, unloaded the containers and held product in inventory until it was needed.
- MGX also collected, processed, and prepared individual orders for pick up and delivery to retail.
Visibility: MGX provided a daily email to USAWW, updating them on which containers had been picked up at port and which containers were scheduled for pick up.
The Impact
MGX’s expertise in logistics and long-standing relationships at the ports, with truckers and warehouse facilities made possible what was impossible for so many other companies during COVID:
- USAWW was able to quickly and efficiently jump into action and take over management of 90 containers already on the water.
- USAWW kept product in stock and was able to continue to process and fill orders without meaningful delays.
- USAWW avoided demurrage fees.
